Teeel – Amulet/Amulet Remixed

For fans of: Air, Röyksopp, New Order

Teeel is the project of New Jersey producer Jim Smith. It’s a mix of vintage Moog sounds and Yamaha DX7 that is clearly in an 80’s synth vein, yet it comes packed with the dream-state mood of the blogosphere and current downtown clubs. With a bit of The Cure and OMD in mind, rhythms are taut backdrops for soaring melodic lines for shoe-gazers and nightcrawlers. “Black Diamonds” is filled with driving percussion and topped with a melancholy vocal hovering above a whirl of softer air-filled hypnotic chords. “Ojai Valley (Shapeless Shadow Remix}” is a darker electronica frenzy while “Galilean Moons” serves up a heavier near-disco beat and richly layers keyboard dances. The title track recalls Pet Shop Boys but stays in an ethereal vein that’s danceable and listenable at once.

Whether in a space music or pensive groove, Teeel is producing camera-ready tracks that would fit in teen dramas and contemporary independent films as well as slick corporate programs and as background for edgier commercials. The tracks have an inspirational feel that is deceptively mesmerizing. The remixes push the tension level up a notch and would be a better fit for projects requiring a harder impact.
